No Pressure!
I posted a link(on Facebook) to a short movie by environmentalist group 10:10, which shows various groups of people being asked if they will go along with the plan to reduce greenhouse gasses by 10%. Those who didn't got told "No pressure..." and then were messily blown up. At first, I thought it was a spoof of the eco-fascism movement, but no, it was dead serious. I think this murderous fantasy is very revealing of the mentality of these people. If you don't obey, they are happy to splatter your guts. Anthrophobic, totalitarian, and psychotic are the first adjectives that come to mind. But I think this is useful. Perhaps more people will see precisely what arrogant bastards these would-be world-saviors are. Most frightening, one of the child actors said he didn't mind getting blown up to help save the world. I'm sure suicide bombers feel the same way. 'As James Delingpole put it in his column about the video, “Eco-fascism jumps the shark: massive, epic fail!” And just exactly how amusing is it to depict the graphic murder of children who refuse to march in lockstep with the Global Warming cult? If someone set out to intentionally discredit the Global Warming movement, they couldn’t have made a video more devastating than this one. It’s as if the eco-fascists have an irrepressible urge to expose their unconscious fantasies to those whom they seek to dominate — like a serial killer who sends taunting letters to the media. “When we say ‘No pressure,’ what that really means is, ‘We will kill you if you don’t obey.’ So, don’t worry, NO PRESSURE. Understand? Our finger is hovering over the red button. Really, you are free to think whatever you want. (Wink.) No pressure. Ha ha ha!”' Current Mood: aggravated | | Monday, August 2nd, 2010 | | 12:44 am |
Palin vs. Hillary?
Yep, it's politics again. Sarah Palin appears to be the front runner for the GOP in 2012, currently. I was just thinking what would happen if Hillary Clinton managed to get the nomination for the Democratic Party. Yes, I know President Obama is most likely to run again, and I suppose the nomination is his if he wants it. But let's just suppose that he has had quite enough and does an LBJ. Sarah Palin's "aw shucks" routine was practically copyrighted by Hillary, and I fully expect that Hillary would bury her alive in a debate. After all, as (by then)former Secretary of State, she will have foreign policy credibility that Palin would never have in five lifetimes. Moreover, having been the wife of one president and the close associate of another, she owns the White House aura--certainly more than Palin could. Now, it's true, she's not as attractive as Palin, and does not have the sort of charisma that drives people wild. Moreover, people generally agree that Hillary craves power like others crave oxygen. In short, she's frightening, capable of winning and then ruling like the Emperor Tiberius. Palin does have a charisma, and can give a good speech from time to time. Unfortunately, she's no brainiac, and neither are her avid followers. In fact, the better educated of the population generally think she's appallingly ignorant and would vote for Machiavelli in drag before voting for her. Please don't ask me why the Republicans have such a crush on Sarah Palin. Maybe they want someone who shares their personal prejudices and half-baked ideas while looking cute in a short skirt with heels. Admittedly, no other current candidate they have is much better. We may just be stuck with another Democratic landslide in 2012. Sigh. Current Mood: awake | | Tuesday, July 13th, 2010 | | 1:31 am |
Life is Life!
Does anyone in pop music ever really think about the implications of their lyrics? Here is wimpy ska group Opus doing a cutesy-but-pointless song called "Life is Life": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Jy4tMySp5oWatch it carefully, and savor the sheer silliness of the song, as well as the mindlessness of the audience. It says nothing whatsoever, and still has a barely catchy tune. Now, look at what Laibach (naturally!) does to the exact same song, not changing a word: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbB1s7TZUQk&feature=related. Personally, I think it's hysterical, but no one ever accused me of having a normal sense of humor. I think if Laibach did not exist, someone would have to invent them, probably Norman Spinrad. | | Sunday, June 6th, 2010 | | 12:05 pm |
Helen Thomas to Jews: Go Back To Germany!
White House journalist Helen Thomas said that the Jews should "Get the hell out of Palestine and go back to Germany and Poland": http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/04/ari-fleischer-fire-helen-thomas_n_601565.html Helen Thomas in happier days! "Blessed is he who fights jihad in the name of Allah, blessed is he who [goes on] raids in the name of Allah, blessed is he who dons a vest of explosives on himself or on his children and goes in to the depth of the Jews and says: 'Allahu Akbar, blessed be Allah.' Like the collapse of the building upon the heads of the Jews in their sinful dance-hall, I ask of Allah that we see the Knesset collapsing on the heads of the Jews." Happy Pi Day!
Just a thought...in five years, it will be 3/14/15, nein? /Yes, it's an original. //Thank you, thank you, try the veal... Oh, and it's Einstein's birthday. He'd be 130 today. BTW, I'm getting an A in Physics! Cornbread are square! Current Mood: amused | | Wednesday, March 10th, 2010 | | 9:19 pm |
Way, way, way too much information!
I didn't ask, really! http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dailypolitics/2010/03/watch-the-latest-business-vide-1.html Yeah, that was pretty much my reaction, too... I remember when my mother, a Roosevelt-era Democrat, asked me rhetorically how the Clinton Monicagate scandal could be any more disgusting. I mean, she was really offended. She asked how could parents explain to their poor little kids what this was all about. I took on my most patient, parent-like tone, and said to some invisible child: "Well, Johnny, it's like this: when a president and an intern really, really love each other, and they don't want to have any babies..." Thankfully, she didn't live long enough to hear the expression "tickle fight"... Current Mood: amused | | Tuesday, March 9th, 2010 | | 10:52 am |

Comfort foods?
Just curious what kind of comfort food readers favored. I like Gerber's oatmeal--you can see that goes back a ways!--Campbell's bean with bacon soup, bacon sandwiches, hot chocolate, stuffed flank steak, soft-boiled eggs with toast torn up and mixed with them (hot sauce optional), and tacos. How about y'all? Current Mood: hungry | | 8:08 am |

Ah, long live the BBC!
Just enjoying choice moments of I, Claudius. Here's one of my favorite scenes, where the Praetorian Guard is trying to persuade Claudius into accepting the crown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXQGUh0ySec&feature=relatedWhat superb acting! Really, could anyone else have done a better job as Claudius than Derek Jacobi? I seriously doubt it... Here's another golden moment, when Caligula is hailed as the Savior of Rome by idiotic senators who have no idea that they are giving absolute power to a lunatic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG3Y8eEXd8E&feature=relatedAnd, again, John Hurt is perfect as the creepy Caligula. Whoever picked these roles was a genius. Current Mood: cheerful | | Monday, March 1st, 2010 | | 11:35 pm |

All the usual suspects...
There is going to be--they hope--a gigantic, well-coordinated national strike and Day of Action on behalf of public education. Well, have a look: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=219x19109In my opinion, it is simply an excuse for the Left to recruit lots of new people. It will not induce the State of California to shovel more money into the educational system, because the money simply does not exist. I expect that's true in every state. However, don't tell the SDS retreads and Workers World Party cultists that, because they will be having too much fun chanting "Hey hey, ho ho (fill in the blank) has got to go!" The problem is that thousands of students, too young and inexperienced to know they're being suckered, will think they are being led to a glorious new people's movement( GAG!) and somehow their classes will miraculously blossom because the coalition of workers and students say it must happen! Now, a more sensible way to work for public education is to find new revenue streams and divert old and useless ones. Pouring money into prisons has been the Prison Guards Union wet dream for years, and that has to change. Legalize marijuana, gambling and prostitution, and tax the corporations that arise from that--it's got to be worth a couple of billion at least. Of course, I dislike the idea of taxation, and it could create another underground market in homegrown weed., but that's another column altogether. And, while you're at it, unionize the prostitutes. Talk about exploited labor! But anyway, the SEIU and other left-of-center groups are getting a revolution boner from this upcoming thing, and who would I be to spoil their fun? But, in the words of Jello Biafra, "Tomorrow, you're homeless--tonight, it's a blast!" See you in the morning, kids... Current Mood: calm | | Friday, February 26th, 2010 | | 10:35 pm |
